Somehow I had a premonition that would happen. (But that’s not the reason why I didn’t go) I sort of just toyed with the probabilities considering that his mom just passed away, and he’s really not fit, plus the whole drama behind the staging of this colossal event. I think it was overwhelming for everybody, and not just for him. Though I felt sorry for Ely’s physical and emotional condition, I couldn’t help but be amazed with how the story spun into a hard-core rakenrol headline. It sounded like a scene in a movie. I think if there’s anyone out there who has been playing with the idea of producing a biographical movie about this band – there’s the perfect Shakespearean ending to your film! For me, the story really had to end in some form of irony otherwise it’s going to be a fairy tale and rakenrol is not fairy tale. For me, this “bitin” ending even made them bigger legends than they already are. That should be good.
So what should I be really living for? Our priorities as a couple were really tested. Should we burn 2000 bucks for one night of nostalgia? What is there to really look back on anyway? I asked God, “Of all days, Lord why did you have to make the conference organizers pick this date?” And then He answered, “Because I want you to set your priorities straight” … Gulp. Hehe… As leaders of the Young Adults Ministry in our church, we knew what to put on our calendar.
So what if the E-Heads concert happened on another date? Honestly, the conference wasn’t the only thing that blocked our way. I was very concerned about the other useful ways we could spend that P2000… buy groceries… add to our rainy days savings… pay for bills… as financial aid for someone who really needs it. Even if I have gotten the tickets for free, I knew that going to the concert would be like stepping into a field of land mines. I was pretty sure I would bump into people that I have long sifted out of my life, and that would not be pretty.
Anyway, I’m thrilled to hear that the fans had their fill even only with 15 songs. I’m happy that the band set aside their differences to give what was due. I sure pray that they are really good friends again.
I didn’t go because bottom line I think I have gone ahead than most of my contemporaries. I think I have moved on earlier than planned. As much as I have fond memories of the E-Heads and they fill the nooks and crannies of my younger life story with songs, I also have a different set of priorities now… and they’re all geared towards God.
“Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your heart on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.” – COLOSSIANS 3:2

ReplyDeletesadly... but, yes... if they haven't found God yet, and surrendered to a life beyond their grandest imagination. Eph.3:20
