In the absence of my husband, I had a bunch of boys in Boracay! Hahahahaha. It’s not what you think. The boys that I’m talking about are actually my colleagues for this project. Sir Mike who heads ThemeWorks, the events company I’m working for in this Bora project has an all-male staff. So during my entire one week stay in Bora, I was the only rose among the thorns.
It was interesting to be among men again. They were all “makulet!” Of course, it wouldn’t be Bora without a party. So during the 3rd night, after our client’s beachfront dinner, our team organized a dance party for the company’s employees. By the way, maybe I have not mentioned it yet. Our project was the annual National Sales Conference for the pharmaceutical company Roche. We put together their program, convention, team building games, parties, etc…
And oh, I learned something – Pharma employees are party freaks!!! Hahaha. But hey they really deserved this break. After all being in sales is practically a lifeless profession. Look at my husband. He was supposed to be with me here but because he’s another corporate slave, he’s there in Manila stuck in a boardroom meeting while I’m here dancing the Macarena.
Partying… I don’t deny that I used to be a party girl. Yes, I used to dance on tables but not all the time, okay? It feels funny because now as I look at these people shooting Tequilas, gulping down beer and kicking sand with their dance moves, I could not imagine that I was once a very good part of that picture. My partying days feel like light years away already. And while I still enjoyed the music (it was a retro dance party, so imagine the song list) somehow I could not bring myself boldly into the dance floor anymore. Things have certainly changed. Although I wonder, have I become corny? My old friends even told me recently that I have turned into a “manang.” Yikes!
That night, they incessantly offered me tequila and beer but I refused of course and compromised on having just a couple of glasses of white wine instead. They wanted me to dance but I said no. I’m quite fine just swaying here in my little corner until finally, one of the boys pulled me out for a round of Swing. And there I missed my husband again. :-( There was nobody else I wanted to dance with but my Joseph.
Anyway, maybe I have really become a manang because all through out the night I was like the “little” big sister (although some of there were far older than me) to my Bora boys. I was the one reminding them to behave. It was okay to have fun, dance the night out, but keep your hands to your pockets, get down from the table, and please stop flirting with one of the company’s Brand Managers! Don’t mix business with pleasure, please. We still want to hold this account next year.
It was good to learn that these boys were actually still “good guys.” They knew their boundaries. I even kidded them, “Hey you have a new job description now… events coordinator slash GRO!!!” And guess what, because the boys were really adorable (thanks to the special Macarena dance number that they cooked up), and some were really crush-worthy, one of the Department Heads actually approached Sir Mike for another event. She said that she wants ThemeWorks to handle it but the employees have a special request – bring all the boys! Hahaha. Package deal!
As for me, I agree that the boys were really nice (and true some were cute enough) but sorry I’m taken. Hahaha. My “boy” is waiting for me in Manila. And I can’t wait to “party” with him. :-)
