“TailRunners: The Metro Dog Run 2010” on April 17, 6AM at the SM Mall of Asia grounds is set to be the biggest doggie marathon ever to happen in Metro Manila. It is presented by MyPetChannel (www.mypetchannel.tv), the online guide to a happy pet lifestyle in the Philippines, Royal Canin dog food, and Pet Express, the one-stop shop for all your dogs’ and cats’ needs.
This Run for a Cause intends to unite all pet lovers, breed clubs, animal welfare groups, local government offices, and private businesses, to push for more pet friendly places in the metro, and to work for a more humane treatment of rescued and shelter animals in every municipality. No to dog pounds! Yes to animal shelters! If other cities can do it, why can’t the rest follow? A percentage of the registration fee goes to the four beneficiary Animal Welfare Groups: Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Compassion and Responsibility for Animals (CARA), Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), and the Cavite Animal Welfare Society (SAWS Cavite).
With the pet industry boom in the country and the rising awareness of responsible pet ownership among Filipinos, more establishments – from restaurants to condominiums, and many other places – are now opening their doors to the furry companions of their customers. The SM Mall of Asia is one of the few malls in the metro that has proclaimed to be pet friendly!
“TailRunners” also aims to promote the importance of FITNESS for humans and canines alike. We already know the therapeutic effect that pets have on their owners that help ease the stress of the urban jungle. But best of all, RUNNING WITH YOUR DOG has been proven to be a great way to keep fit because it combines all the benefits of exercise for both man and dog, and quality time with our most loyal best friend.
Joining the run as “TailRunning Ambassadors” are Sports Anchor & Frisbee femme fatele Reema Chanco with her Golden Retriever Sasha, Commercial Model and Radio Jock Hilary Isaac with her Siberian Husky Rufus, and Theater Actor/Director Audie Gemora with his adopted Asong Pinoy (Aspin) Skipper, as well as Mondioring Trainer Carl de Leon with his American Bulldog Kovu, and Pet Express Marketign Manager & Running Enthusiast Janine Ngo with her Dachshund Impulse. These perfectly paired Running Buddies are definitely good examples that there’s nothing more fun and fulfilling than keeping fit with your dogs. The run is open to all breeds and dog sizes as long the dog is over 1 year old, in good health, and has received proper vaccination. The distances available are 1.5 km, 3km, and 5km. Aside from the actual dog run, there will also be side activities such as fun games and canine sport exhibitions. All registered participants will get fully loaded doggy bags of treats and race essentials. Exciting prizes and special awards await the winners!
